Batman: Under the Red Hood

Media_httpi27tinypicc_rkcet

If you haven't seen Batman: Under The Red Hood, I urge you to do so. I've been waiting to watch this ever since the DVD cover art hit bat-blog and it does not disappoint. You don't even have to be a hardcore Batman fan to enjoy this movie. I downloaded the 720p version off the interwebs and streamed it onto my HDTV via my PS3 (I <3 you, PS3)

Recently, I've been re-living a lot of my childhood. I have so far downloaded complete seasons of Batman: The Animated Series, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (the original that ran from 1988 upto 1996) and one of my favourite Hanna-Barbera shows: The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest that ran from 1996-1997. I'm currently hunting down all the episodes for Superman: The Animated Series and Johnny Bravo hubba hubba! :D

Today's animated shows for kids ... sigh ... FAIL compared to the awesomeness back then. If I've missed one of your favourites, hit me up in the comments :)

The last time my family bought a computer was in 1999.

FF>> 11 years and I'm thinking of getting a 21.5" iMac for the home and turning my current PC into a dedicated Linux machine. The new iMac refresh announced today doesn't have anything that I really want. I could do without the new i3 or i5 processors and the dedicated graphics bump. A USB 3.0 or a Blu ray writer could have coaxed me into getting the new one.

I'll wait for the price drop on the older iMacs as retailers try to push out stock. Prices as of 17-Jul-2010 Sharaf DG has already slashed 400 bucks from its basic iMac model :)

Official Google Blog: Life in a Day on July 24

Life In A Day is a global experiment to create a user-generated feature film: a documentary, shot in a single day, by you. On 24 July, you have 24 hours to capture a glimpse of your life on camera. The most compelling and distinctive footage will be edited into an experimental documentary film, produced by Ridley Scott and directed by Kevin Macdonald.

If your video is included in the final film, you'll be credited as a co-director and may be one of 20 contributors selected to attend the film's world premiere at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival.

I'll be in Dubai on the 24th, I might document my day :D

Shooting Club

This post was stuck in draft mode for about a month - I completely forgot about it :/

As a thank you to Manish for treating us to his birthday dinner, us lot went over to the Caracal Shooting Club. It is a tad bit expensive for first timers since one has to undergo the basic training that covers safety, how to hold a gun, where to point, when to shoot etc. Once you are registered member you don't have to pay for the training anymore, just the gun rental and shells.

This is Manish staring at his assigned gun with the crazy look in his eyes. We felt much safer sitting out while he was in there because we didn't know what exactly was going on in his head. What if some neuron(s) misfire and override the safety mechanism in his brain instructing him to pop a cap in everyon...nevermind.

Inception - thoughts.

Media_http28mediatumb_vxycy

I remember the first time I saw The Matrix. I was in the 9th grade and not all that familiar with heavy cogsci concepts but that movie blew my mind (too bad they didn't make make it into a trilogy). It was the experience of watching the story unfold that made it awesome.

Inception is just how I like my sci-fi movies; it is The Matrix of this generation. The marketing of this movie was unusally low-key, the producers were betting on Nolan's talent and it worked. I usually prefer watching complex movies on my own for the first time, I don't like being bugged with questions when my own mind is trying to stitch different ideas together and grasp the concept.

1. Ellen Page was not bad but that character could have been done by someone else.

2. I loved the soundtrack of this movie. Hans Zimmer for Oscar - I'm calling it right now. I'm listening to this genius' work at this moment (Track #3 Dream is Collapsing). Seriously, download this soundtrack and tell me with a straight face that it doesn't give you the chills (track #6 528491)

3. Thank you to the writer/producer/director involved for not dumbing down this movie any more than they had to. I really enjoyed the play between the first/final scene.

4. People are going to compare this with The Matrix and I think both movies should be treated separately.

5. If you liked this movie then congratulations, you enjoy cinema that mindfucks you. Make a point to watch Primer, Oldboy, Jacob's Ladder, Dark City, Donnie Darko, A Scanner Darkly, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Machinist, Existenz, Twelve Monkeys, A Clockwork Orange, I can't thnik or any more right now. I'll mention them in the comments when I'm sober.

6. Without an architect they would be submerged into a subject's nightmares?

BONUS: a friend of mine just gave me a link to the movie's prequel comic here. Recommended read, hit full screeen and just keep clicking next.

Remember you said we'd grow old together?

LeBron is in Miami, bitch.

Media_http28mediatumb_ryrpf

So they're burning his jerseys now. I mean, I guess I understand - the guy really wants a championship ring and he couldn't wait any more than the 7 years he's spent with his home team. Everyone's talking about how he's lost his legacy for good with this switch and I agree that even if he does win with Miami, it won't be that special 'cos he'll have to share it with Wade and Bosh as the other 2 big names on that team. Sure, the Celtics did it with their big 3 Pierce, Allen and Garnett but LeBron can't have what Kobe does or what MJ did by sticking to their teams.

I find the media circus around this move hilariously funny. I just enjoy watching good ball and I'll miss the Cleavland vs Miami matches now.

My friend over in the States says that after this news broke out they're playing one particular song over and over and over.

The last time I had this song stuck in my head was when I was on chat with the Queen of the Western Hemisphere, LOL :D

Spain 1 - Paraguay 0

Villa, as usual, on goal last night. Not a very convincing win but a win nevertheless. This man was the real hero last night:

Captain.

Keeper.

"Sexy man beast who can handle balls" (- Bianca)

The world is in love with Casillas right now and he deserves it because he has saved Real Madrid's a$$ more times than I can count. I am a bit worried about Spain's finishing but here's hoping that they can emulate their Euro '08 win against Germany. This will be a difficult match to watch, the Germans are one hell of a team and those guys have my full respect.

Whoever wins this match will win the cup. ¡VIVA ESPAÑA!
